Dr. Michael Wilhite and our dental team are thrilled to treat patients of all ages. We, along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommend that your child visit our office by age 1 or within six months of their first tooth coming in.
Your Child’s First Visit
Your child’s first visit is usually short and involves little treatment. This visit will give your child a chance to meet our dentist in a friendly environment. Our dentist may ask you to sit in the dental chair, holding your child during their exam. You may also be asked to wait in the reception room during part of the exam so that your child can grow to trust our dentist.
Dr. Mike will examine all of your child’s teeth for decay, check their bite, and look for any problems or potential problems with the gums, jaw and oral tissues. Our hygienist may clean your child’s teeth and apply fluoride. Then Dr. Mike and Nikki will instruct you about dental care for children and answer any questions you may have. It is important to care for the primary teeth, or baby teeth, because they allow your child to chew and speak. In addition to this, they save space for the future permanent teeth. The baby teeth should remain in your child’s mouth until the permanent teeth beneath them are ready to break through the gums.
We welcome you to contact Davidson Cosmetic & Family Dentistry today at 704-987-2277 to learn more about pediatric dentistry in Davidson, North Carolina, and schedule your child’s visit!
Pediatric Dentistry FAQs
What is pediatric dentistry?
Pediatric dentistry focuses on caring for children’s teeth, gums, and oral development from infancy through the teen years. Our dentist provides age-appropriate care designed to support healthy habits, monitor growth, and help children feel comfortable during dental visits.
Why is pediatric dental care important?
Pediatric dental care helps protect children’s oral health during important stages of growth and development. Regular visits allow our dentist to watch for early concerns, provide preventive care, and guide families on habits that support strong, healthy smiles.
What services are included in pediatric dentistry?
Pediatric dentistry may include exams, cleanings, fluoride treatment, sealants, cavity care, and monitoring of developing teeth and jaws. Our dentist tailors treatment to each child’s needs while focusing on comfort, prevention, and positive dental experiences.
When should my child start seeing the dentist?
Children should begin dental visits early so their smile can be monitored from the start. Early appointments help our dentist check development, provide preventive guidance, and create a positive foundation for lifelong oral health and regular dental care.
