Dr. Michael Wilhite and our dental team are thrilled to treat patients of all ages. We, along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommend that your child visit our office by age 1 or within six months of their first tooth coming in. Your child’s first visit is usually short and involves little treatment. This visit will give your child a chance to meet our dentist in a friendly environment. Our dentist may ask you to sit in the dental chair, holding your child during their exam. You may also be asked to wait in the reception room during part of the exam so that your child can grow to trust our dentist.

Dr. Mike will examine all of your child’s teeth for decay, check their bite, and look for any problems or potential problems with the gums, jaw and oral tissues. Our hygienist may clean your child’s teeth and apply fluoride. Then Dr. Mike and Nikki will instruct you about dental care for children and answer any questions you may have. It is important to care for the primary teeth, or baby teeth, because they allow your child to chew and speak. In addition to this, they save space for the future permanent teeth. The baby teeth should remain in your child’s mouth until the permanent teeth beneath them are ready to break through the gums.
